I think rats make great pets.
As you can probably tell from the amount of animals in my house, I am an animal lover. But the most misunderstood animals that I own would have to be my rats. They are perhaps the sweetest rodents I have ever owned. Neither of them have ever bit me or anyone else. They crave attention. They do not sleep all day. My rats are like little people. They are not easily made sick. You can feed rats practically anything.

My other favorite of the rodent family is the guinea pig. I have two, one of which is pictured below. Guinea pigs are so personable, and they are so adorable when they know the person that is picking them up. Callie, the guinea pig pictured, had babies when she was herself still very young. It was a great experience for us, but the hard part was giving the babies away.

My Rats
Lucy is the rat with the brown stripe down her back. Lily is the one with a white back. I have learned to tell my rats apart by their faces now. Their tails might be growing, but I still love the way they look and how they have so much energy when I hold them.
My Guinea Pigs
This is a picture of my guinea pig Callie. She is named for her calico fur. She is nearly 3 years old. Her husband is Julian, my other guinea pig. He is about 2 and 1/2 years old. He is neutered now so they can live together without having more babies.
R.I.P. Toby
My beloved hamster has died. He was an old hamster, Albino (white with red eyes) and Dwarf (half the size of a regular teddy bear hamster). He was ready to die, so when he was too old to live comfortably any longer, we had him put to sleep.
